Food Allergy Sufferers. Shopping Just Got Simpler with FoodWiz!

Allergy Zone article on FoodWiz app

Fantastic News for anyone with a Food Allergy.

Anyone with small children knows that food shopping with them in tow can be a stressful event at the best of times.  If you then throw food allergy and intolerance (which means having to check the labels on all of the products that you are buying)  into the equation you are soon faced with what could easily be described as “a complete nightmare!”.

Careful checking of the product packaging can be very time consuming and often difficult to understand as manufacturers don’t always use the same terms for the same ingredient.

As a busy mum I am always on the look out for things that save me time so I was really excited to hear about FoodWiz which provides a really clever solution for quickly and easily checking food products whilst in the supermarket.

Introducing FoodWiz

By simply swiping the bar code on your chosen food or drink product with the camera on your smart phone you can now quickly and easily identify all food allergens contained within.  The FoodWiz app will return the information and display it on your phone within 1 second of you swiping the barcode.

This should make shopping a lot quicker and easier and relieve a lot of the stress and anxiety involved.

How to use FoodWiz

All you need to do is go onto the FoodWiz website www.foodwiz.co and register online with them.  You can then download the app and the database,  it’s as easy as that;  you can now go shopping!  You can currently sign-up for a 30 day free trial.

You can use FoodWiz  in Asda and Tesco supermarkets both of whom have been associated with helping develop the database to over 70,000 food and drink products.   The fantastic charity Allergy UK is supporting it too.

More to come

At the moment the app is only available for use with the iPhone 3G, 3GS, and 4 but  according to information on FoodWiz’s website they are launching an Android version of FoodWiz in the first week of March.

Tried & Tested

I would have given this product the Allergy Zone tried & tested treatment but I don’t have an iPhone, I am awaiting delivery of a smart phone so once the Android version of FoodWiz is released I will give it a spin and write a product review.
