Milk Allergy Alert – Aldi – Greisinger Cheese Cabanossi Austrian sausages withdrawn

The Food Standards Agency issued the following food allergy alert on Thursday 9th June 2011:

Aldi Stores withdraws one batch of Greisinger Cheese Cabanossi Austrian air dried, hot smoked and seasoned sausages due to incorrect allergen labelling

Allergen: Milk

Ref: U/2011

Product:

Greisinger Cheese Cabanossi Austrian air dried, hot smoked and seasoned sausages, 300g

Risk:

Due to a labelling error, the product is labelled as dairy free but contains cheese, which is included in the ingredients list. The product therefore presents a potential health risk for people who are allergic or intolerant to milk and milk components. Consumers who are lactose intolerant are unaffected as the product is confirmed through testing as being made with cheese that is lactose-free.

Best Before Date: 25/07/11

Action taken by the company:

Aldi Stores has withdrawn the affected batch of product and has contacted the relevant allergy support organisations, which will inform their at-risk members of the withdrawal. Point-of-Sale notices will be displayed in stores to alert consumers to the reasons for the withdrawal and the actions they can take if they have purchased the product. A copy of the product packaging is attached below.

No other Greisinger or Aldi branded products are known to be affected.

Advice to consumers:

Customers with an allergy to milk are advised not to eat this product.
