Milk Allergy Alert – Sainsbury’s Freefrom Chocolate Sponge Pudding

The Food Standards Agency issued the following allergy alert on Friday 1st April 2011:

Sainsbury’s Supermarkets Ltd withdraws on date code of Sainsbury’s Freefrom Chocolate Sponge Pudding due to the presence of milk protein (casein).

Allergens: Milk (casein)

Sainsbury’s Freefrom Chocolate Sponge Pudding, 110g

Best before: 13/04/11

Risk:

One date code of the above product has been found to contain low levels of milk protein. Milk is not an intended ingredient and this makes the product a potential health risk for people who are allergic or intolerant to milk or milk constituents.

Action taken by the company:

The company has removed all affected stock from sale. Customer notices will be displayed in stores to alert consumers to the reasons for the withdrawal and the actions they can take if they have purchased the affected batch of product. In addition, the company has contacted the relevant allergy support organisations who will inform their at risk members of the withdrawal.

No other Sainsbury’s Supermarkets Ltd products are known to be affected.

Advice to consumers:

Customers with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents are advised not to eat these products.
